Just bought an Africa Surge Power Adapter that guarantees pc equipment upto R20000 if the lightning should get through.

But there is an power surge plug for the telephone aswell, with an in and out. But when I put the telephone line via the power surge plug, my modem doesnt pick up an signal.

Does the Power Surge Plug work like a filter then?
If yes, whats the use of it?

Well dont mind losing an 56k to lightning, but giving up my wireless billion router.

It cost me more than my screen card. And I believe is the most vunrable to lightning. :(

You get a specific type of surge protector for adsl i think, but i think a normal surge protector should do the job for adsl, it only keeps voltage spike out of the line nothing else, doesnt filter as far as i know.

Actually you know, the computer consumer and I would bet more than half of the people on myadsl know more than the matrics and old toppies working at these pc stores.
LOL, no the old toppies and laaties man! Africa Surge who manufacture the gizmo.

Incredible Corruption ;) sells a couple of Belkin (i think) surge adaptors. The more expensive one was about R280 last year and had 100k damage cover.

Is anyone here using that brand for their ADSL router?

Does it work for your ADSL router?? Africa Surge has an filter in it, I can be sure of that!

@kiepie: Sorry, I don't have any surge protector at the moment. Was just asking if anyone had the Belkin surge protector and if they had problems like you've had.

I'm still waiting on Telskum to give me ADSL...

Ok, now that's weird.

I bought exactly the same power surge adapter this weekend and it works fine with my modem.

I've got a Netgear, can't remember the model tho. What you got?

I use that brand on my billion 5102G router, nevet fail me before even after a few direct hits. Incredible corruptions sells them about R100 more than most places. I brought mine from Accomp and BT gamerworld or something like that for around R200. It does break after the direct hits...but which protector doesnt?:P
