Eskom should have very high wind power generation this week, as the storms have hit CT and will continue to do so for the following two days.
 
How high is too high and they shut down?

I'm talking about generating speed, not some theoretical construction strength.

Approaching rotor speed limits seem too high for the turbines to deliver, probably even if not theoretical, so what else could decide that?

What is the maximum rotor speed of wind turbine?

Rotor speed depends, in part, on rotor diameter. Rotor speeds typically lie in the 120–210 m/s range, but mostly between 150 and 190 m/s, with a tendency to be higher with a smaller rotor diameter
 
So something else keeps it much lower. Moving parts & safety regulations I presume, haven't found more about it.

Current schedule from my source doesn't say for the rest of the week this time, just until tomorrow, so are they unsure of themselves again? I mean they're not going to improve it beyond S3 with the coastal weather, surely??

They have been unsure for about a week already skipping slots and ending early sometimes.

That's a very long range outlook (8 days), but some model runs are showing a powerful countrywide frontal system on Wed 21st and Thurs 22nd. I wouldn't draw any conclusions about power demand and load shedding at this stage...

Remember Friday is a public holiday as well, so it might actually go up to stage 4 like it did on the weekend but we will have to see.

Didn't realise about Friday.
I think the weekend was more due to the two breakdowns, but the weather...
 
Just realised - the potential speed of turbine blades is the speed at the outer extreme? Wonder how much less it is at the base then.
