or some more coal broke and renewables and pumped storage just wasn't enough to maintain the stage 3 illusion without burning diesel at 6pm?18 OCGTS used though, kind leans into they aren't using Renewables to offset LS.

Well the renewables would've covered it, as with load shedding and VPS they only sent out 27768, but they had 590MW over that available, so if the renewables were used, they wouldn't have needed the 2300MW of renewables, as the 1800MW+600MW is the buffer.or some more coal broke and renewables and pumped storage just wasn't enough to maintain the stage 3 illusion without burning diesel at 6pm?
18 OCGTS
They're clearly still having regular out of control periods. Doesn't say much for the all-Karen's-fault story...or some more coal broke and renewables and pumped storage just wasn't enough to maintain the stage 3 illusion without burning diesel at 6pm?
Thankfully because it's lower stages demand isn't 2GW higherThey're clearly still having regular out of control periods. Doesn't say much for the all-Karen's-fault story...
And that thanks to the miracle extra coal found / stabilised?Thankfully because it's lower stages demand isn't 2GW higher![]()
Can you break down that 27768 into its components?Well the renewables would've covered it, as with load shedding and VPS they only sent out 27768, but they had 590MW over that available, so if the renewables were used, they wouldn't have needed the 2300MW of renewables, as the 1800MW+600MW is the buffer.
Well it is about 2GW better in generation then last month, but I mean who knows. Though I do like the peak in and peak out stat now. As you can literally see the difference between availability and what they needed to send out.And that thanks to the miracle extra coal found / stabilised?
Generally Eskom owned dispatch-able elements, so thermal, nuclear, hydro and pumpedCan you break down that 27768 into its components?
20+1+0.5+2=23.5Generally Eskom owned dispatch-able elements, so thermal, nuclear, hydro and pumped

Yup was going to paste that, as even the wind there doesn't make sense, they saying it's over 2GW there but in the report it's only 1.8? So it dropped or gained 600MW in that hour? Because the next hour it was at 2.5 and coal had gone up as well? Perhaps they should start ramping coal up sooner so it doesn't hit peak at 8pmView attachment 1540651Station build-up for the last 7 days - Eskom Data Portal
This shows how resources were used to build-up the demand over the past 7 days, and it includes both generation and demand side resources that Eskom has contracts with.www.eskom.co.za

They can't store solar eitherBut with wind power, unlike solar, they can't store wind power, correct? So they use it as and when available?
At the very least, it should lower OCGT usage if the wind happens to be blowing at the same time as peak, but it could also cover for breakdowns in the coal fleet during the day if it is indeed providing 2GW of power for many hours of the day.
We've got to include the lie-factor. They've learnt to be careful but obfuscation was happening, makes sense it still is. Unless the ANC has had a change of heart :- )But with wind power, unlike solar, they can't store wind power, correct? So they use it as and when available?

We don't have molten sand (or was it silicone?) storage units yet? They can't store solar either, CSP was under 100MW
@wingnut771 do you remember agreeing a few weeks ago that the numbers were meaningless and this whole thread is just an exercise in recording history? I think it may have been bookmarked..
