They have to use the dams if they're over 100% full though.A nuclear power station is the same as coal station in theory. Both use steam to turn generators, one is done by using coal to boil the water, the other uranium. So they just limit the steam going to the turbines. So they might've needed to do something and thought weekend good time to lower it.
They don't use the dams if there is a possibility of flooding underlying regions.

Hopefully the upped imports from chroa bassa are in by the time the wind breaks xDIt boggles the mind that they can use 2.4GW of pumped storage at 6pm on the 20th, but on the 21st they rather use almost all the diesel first and only 1GW of pumped storage. One can see what happens when the wind stops though:
