So I don't think those generators broke on Tuesday, but rather Wednesday. Also todays move to stage 4 is suspect, as demand shouldn't really be that much higher, it's not anywhere near as cold.

Really quite cold south of you, I think another of those modern shorter duration spikes. Been like that for about an hour, may be what pushed them over the edge..

Yeah but South Africans by now should not be relying on electricity for heating, I mean just the pricing alone is hectic.

Actually wish people would read what City Power said. The cable that goes from them to your house, that is your responsibility, it's actually always been your responsibility if it breaks. Same as if the water meter breaks after the meter it's your problem.

Does that include the part of the individual cable that's on public pavement property?
 
So if some wag steals the cable which goes from your house to the electrical pole, it's your problem... which is fair enough.

But if they steal the cables which goes from pole to pole, it's their problem, they cannot pass that cost to the consumer as the levies should cover that.

Expect levies to go up steeply in order to cover these losses.

Also don't expect their technicians to be able to come out and replace stolen cables as they may be attacked by thugs.

Yup pole to pole is them, but pole to house is you. A friend is an electrician and has had many jobs fixing those cables where home owners were like but it's City Power and he's like nope.
