They've started with some interesting demand side management experiments on this side. I just signed up for one.
They nominate a peak hour in which they want to manage the demand. During this hour, for every 1kwh that I reduce my usage by compared to my average for that 1 hour period, they give me credits worth (today) £2.25

So in that period will you just reduce by minimizing usage or go off the grid completely (batteries / PV)?

12 Billion rand was burned so far this year on diesel.

Oberholzer - there have been 468 trips this year. 30% unplanned load losses.

Eskom spent over R12bn this year burning diesel.

We do not have money to burn diesel to anymore. We have municipalities that owe us

We will be forced to implement to load shedding because we don't have the money to burn diesel. We plan load shedding to burn as little diesel as possible.

Sounds like permanent load shedding without saying it out loud.

I don't have PV or batteries (yet - really not a priority here) but yeah will just make sure as much is turned off as possible.
Today it's from 5pm till 6pm, so will only fire up the airfryer after 6 :D

Sounds good, but some have been predicting for ages that these carrots will be dangled with the political desire to eventually introduce a greenie-passport for excessive individual control.
Witnessing some of the Covid issues I think that's likely.
 
I'm not gonna watch more, it's clear they're far from getting things under control and LS is now the norm.

Part that annoyed me the most was about the tripping - months later he now repeats that they know it's bad, says they really need to do something about it... what is that supposed to mean, what exactly are they doing about it!?

That irks me as well, it's like we've known about the tripping, we've done little about it though.
