Full all the empty space in your fridge with water bottles.
Someone gave us ice blankets for our chest freezer, works well.

Also drop a couple of plastic bottles full of water into your freezer.

Protip - use 250ml bottles as these are easier to rearrange/move around than 2l bottles.

Will keep it cold during extended loadshedding periods.
Not sure if pro-pro tip but some say mixing in salt with these bottles can actually be keep ice longer and to keep your cooler cold for longer. Still need to do this test sometime...

Relieved - was headed for a 4 hour slot from 6am tot 10am. Now only 2 hours.
My fridge reaches an internal temperature of around 18 degrees at the end of a 4 hour slot. Ambient in my house is around 25 degrees.
18 degrees in 4 hours? Those seals are shot by the sounds of it, should at most be 7 from 4. But as wingnut says put cold water bottles in to retain the cool air.

sorry for the dumb question - must the water in the bottles be frozen first and then placed in the fridge or is it fine just to have normal cold water from the get-go?

Just keep the bottles unfrozen in the fridge, this should be fine for 2 hours. If it is very warm and/or 4 hours LS, add some freezer bricks to the fridge.

Well You can also start buy running your fridge cooler, I know many people who's fridge is barely cold. Doesn't help your fridge temp is like 8 or 10 degrees and then loadshedding hits. Switch it cooler.
