@Brian_G - quietly positive about the transmission issue getting attention. Western Cape and Eastern Cape are where the wind is best - unfortunately, no wind projects were successful in the latest round of IPP bids due to the transmission issue.

Probably around 3000MW will be comprised of less planned maintenance. Now to just find another missing 2000MW! :p

Eskom and the government seem to be pushing for those three Kusile plants to come online ASAP which would be 2100MW [not that I have much hope they will come online before peak winter in June/July]...perhaps the SoD can help in that respect i.e. not have to go through all the processes etc. to get their band-aid solution approved?

Problem we have is that they are assuming we will get the full 2100MW of power from those units - which is unrealistic in normal circumstances - then we add in that the guys that built Kusile were family and friends of the zuma crew, which means that there is sadly a very good chance they will not work

Wind even in good areas seems expensive and messy. I prefer Karoo solar as best for what must go this way.

Think we're likely to see all sorts of progress now that they got their SoD, but can they actually pull things together?
