Yep, parts of Craighall Park, Parkhurst and Parktown North were out for days a few weeks back as CityPower had moved part of the load from the Parkhurst sub station to Forest Town and then Rosebank after a cable fault which they never repaired. This overloaded Forest Town and Rosebank forcing CityPower to finally repair the cable fault. There are also random outages caused by local pole CB trips, like my ySIL last week in Parkhurst, took four days for CityPower to get her mains supply back, FOUR days to sort a CB out.

I check in sometimes with the person whom I sold my buss to in Parkhurst, he says it was an absolute nightmare. Power would come back, trip after a few min and CP would still stick to the load shedding schedule.

He lost days of work, him and the wife had to work Sundays to make up for it.

What a mess

City Power don't do the LS, that is Eskom and we've only had it twice where they skipped us after a long outage. We've had multiple sessions of load shedding while having no power at all, power comes back 10 minutes before LS and bam LS

The infrastructure has definitely deteriorated, significantly since September of last year.
Nah my infrastructure has always been bad, in 2019 we could be out for 24 hours just on stage 4

Since when does Stage 6 have two 4 hours slots and a two hour slot in a day or am I missing something?

Checking the weather in jozi, those people in Alex and soweto won't tolerate cold and no power for long. Expect things to burn

There is a change to times coming tomorrow. So we having back to back doubles through the night. 2 hrs max of power the whole night.

You can easily have 2 x 4 hr loadshedding slots in a day.

This is going by City Power setup but I'm sure it applies to other municipalities. There are 3 main loadshedding slots for the schedule per day. For every loadshedding slot, your municipality has worked out which stage you will be loadshedded at for that time frame. E.G 12:00-14:00 they have slotted your block in at stage 4. If Eskom is loadshedding up to stage 3 you'll miss it, if it is stage 4 you will be loadshedded. When you start going to stage 5 and above that is when the doubles come in. For City Power this is how it works:

Stage 1 = stage 5
Stage 2 = stage 6
Stage 3 = stage 7
Stage 4 = stage 8

You can very well have a separate stage 1 and stage 2 slots per day. And worse they can run back to back so your break between loadshedding reduces from 6 hrs to 4hrs. If there is a time change, the times move earlier so you can just have 2hrs between loadshedding. Each time slot basically last for 4 days, the doubles extend it. When the day comes and Eskom moves to stage 7. You can very well a mix of stage 1, 2 and 3 loadshedding for your day, this is stage 8 loadshedding.

You need to learn your schedules properly. Predicting on your backup generation you need to know what you can and can't do for the day or coming days. It also best to take a pessimistic view and plan according to current worse case scenario.

This is city powers current schedule:
It isn't easy to read but it gives an idea.
Eskomsepush is easier and if it is showing more than 3 slots, that is how it is showing the double for the day.
