I have no idea how the peak tweet is generated anymore, as the numbers never add up :)
Indeed, coal was 20GW, Koeberg was 1.8GW, Moz imports was 1.3GW = 23.1GW capacity.

Like I said, wind at 2.6GW and pumped storage at 1.8GW saved eskom burning diesel.

And yet I get called out for calling it useless hippie crap.
Wind has it's places, but it will never replace the base loads, when it blows we're lucky, but when it doesn't we need to use peakers. The problem is more often than not you need to use peakers.

Any signs that the new fix-it-properly plans are working, or am I a hopeless optimist?

Eskom warned that the plan is extremely tight, and any significant outage slips will have a severe knock-on effect. It also does not cater for any additional problems that could arise from industrial action or other protests.

Eskom said that it does anticipate adding more capacity to the grid over the next three years (36 months) which will greatly reduce the risk of load shedding.

Eskom’s load shedding outlook for the rest of the year

"Available Capacity" 30228MW at 7pm
1662102267701.png
Coal: 22045MW
Nuclear: 1837MW
International Imports: 1323MW
Pumped Storage: 1942MW
Wind: 1730MW
CSP: 316MW
IPP OCGT: 1003MW
Eskom OCGT: 588MW
Hydro: 570MW

Total: 31354MW

31354 - 30228 = 1126MW discrepancy

His figures don't count IPP so you'd remove the IPP OCTG
Yeah, it's looking like that. But when they say they don't include renewables, they are lying. Also, wind was 1.7GW not 1.5GW like in the tweet.

Remember the data portal is an average over the entire hour, while the tweet is a snapshot

Yeah could still be an average, remember at 18:44 it could've been 1500, but at 18:50 it could be 1800. Just watching my solar setup I can see the power generation fluctuate a lot.
and the comment that they don't include wind in "available" generation?
