There's a voice message doing its rounds on Whatsapp in Afrikaans, some character claiming to work for Old Mutual and having overheard or discovered some conversation with political seniors that discusses plans to cause the power grid to fail in December for at least 2 weeks, followed by a State of Emergency.

Highly likely BS I'm sure, and maybe just good for a laugh. But I must add that it did sound convincing. I'm sure others would have / will post it and cause some confusion.

Oh goodie, I'll be in the Eastern Cape, so if this happens, I'll be spared the chaos in Guptastan then, should this ever happen.

People just love to spread BS and scare others. Meh.

Sure. They're also a limited party. My personal opinion of their lack of virtue is the issue, but that doesn't mean they can't come up with something respectable now.

Haven't heard it, but fully expect it to happen in the coming months, not due to some 'plot', just age old incompetence and modern day south african excellence

That's literally how it's been run for years.

Also, that doesn't make any sense. If the power is available, which it clearly was according to their numbers, let people use it. If units trip, then load shed, even if it's short notice.

I swear they are abusing us - it doesn't make financial sense for Eskom to LS more than they need to so I'm trying to thumbsuck another potential reason. Mind gone blank! I thought the reserve margin was generally 2GW and not 4GW....
