I feel like they're preparing for next week.
With those numbers they could have dropped us to 3 or 4. But they're also not running any OCGTs and keeping us on 6 over a weekend.
It also happened in mid December last year -- there was no need, given the numbers provided for Stage 6 on Dec 16, 17 and 18. There is some weird stuff going on. Also like how Eishkom is far faster to increase stages than lower stages.

Also, we're analysing a place that has no idea what's going on from one minute to the next and logic is a distant memory.

I don’t believe the public data to be that accurate. I think they’re holding back on telling us just how bad it is.
That's another thing. Eskom and the ANC aren't exactly bastions of honesty and transparency. The only reason I even look at any of their data is because that's all their is. But I don't believe any of it is really accurate.
I keep waiting for another "about that Eskom info we've been feeding you. Well here's what's really been happening. You're all so very much more screwed than you thought".

Something fishy is definitely going on. For 3 nights in a row the power hasn't been restored after a loadshedding slot.

Our power went off for 0:00 - 04:00, but only came back on at 06:00. It's going off again at 08:00 - 12:00. Strangely this only happens during nights. So far the slots during the day is as scheduled. And not notices that it was municipal infrastructure causing the additional outage.

I’m certain we are more screwed than they’re letting on and that they haven’t hit us with stage 7 due to the “political environment” - so when we do eventually go to stage 7; you must know **** has gone very wrong.

It's tough to know what's dodginess and what's just crappy local infrastructure anymore. And municipalities are less communicative than ever.

That's what I think. Stage 6 seems to have become the acceptable limit now. I think that once they breach 7 all bets are off

Until they give breakdowns on how many units are up and how many are down . We won’t know. I still find it very suspicious that 11 units just puffs stops working . Yes the power stations are old, but they weren’t all build at the same time. And when one unit goes down I don’t think the other automatically pick up the slack. So how does 11 just stop working . But also take everything I say with a pinch of salt cause all I know about electricity is that we don’t have it

The mayor just confirmed that it was Eskom not switching the power back on. So not crappy infrastructure.

Apparently ESKOM gave the following response:
“We have been experiencing communication issues at Substation resulting in the control centre not being able to close the breaker at the substation during load shedding. The communication issue is currently being investigated but an alternative plan has been put in place to ensure that supply is restored after load-shedding.”

Clearly they haven't fixed anything. And of course the bit that switches things off works perfectly.

They're all held together with sticky tape, hopes and dreams.I think it's entirely possible for that many units to go down at once. Whether it's cascade, coincidence or gremlins (aka saboteurs).

Next week is going to be the real test for stage 8 as everyone should be back at work.
A test I'm sure they'll fail miserably

The entire system from the power station to the guy flipping the switch is borked.

And this “planned maintenance” thing. It’s been going on for years but does not really provide any benefits . Maybe lessen the planned maintenance a bit or I don’t know, structure it differently , since it’s clearly not working except taking units off line . But I don’t know I’m a weirdo

I suspect it's probably because the maintenance is being performed by idiots and undone by gremlins

Or they're not doing the maintenance properly, just a wishy-washy job, add some spit 'n polish and hope for the best...

I don’t know, maybe they should get the latest version of the dummies guide to fixing a power station, cause since these “planned maintenance “ slots were introduced , plant breakdowns have increased exponentially

All that I see with planned maintenance is to create a shortage , with increased shortage comes increased demand and with increased demand you can fleece everyone for more money
