and for many years they've been saying that 20GW of coal needs to be decommissioned by 2030. On the plus side, 18GW is already "decommissioned".

So when we only have Kusile and Medupi left what do you think is going to happen?
Besides the point. Point is they have been talking about higher stages of load shedding for long, despite it never happening.

Seems diesel is about to run out again lol

R50 billion owed by municipalities? Could easily afford diesel for end of March if they collected just over a tenth of that. Of course SARS causing issues as well.

We have no other choice. Burn the fuel or go to stage 8. The former being cheaper.

Eskoms goal right now is to find enough monies to buy enough fuel to last till 1st April.

What a sad state of affairs.

Hey if you want to “planned maintenance” on 5 stages worth of units, then you better have the diesel to back that up. I know it’s weird , it’s too hot to sleep , I’m hallucinating

They wouldn't have that much anyway as there isn't 5GW of standby OCGTs, hell some of the peakers still run on kerosene, Port Rex and Acacia pop to my head but those only are 170MW total and only can run for 3 hours, Ankerlig has 9 of the units, Gourikwa has 5 and these are the diesel units, those 2 come in at 2GW
Though it seems one lady runs all 4 of our OCGT plants

Diesel can only cover 2 stages for a week, then it's finished.

Yeah, my problem is with the set in stone "planned maintenance", which they can't do, cause they don't have money. We are in this situation , for one cause the did not maintenance. But now they are going to the extreme with the blanket maintenance. They don't have the luxury to do that. Their maintenance schedule should be dynamic. Loadshedding has become progressively worse....since this rigid maintenance schedule was introduced. And yet, Eskom refuses to let go of it, even though they can't do it cause they don't have the money or the luxury. Make the maintenance outage less, and work on fewer units but get them done

You do know that some of that planned maintenance is actually carried over from the unplanned right?
So how it goes is something breaks it's unplanned, but when you start to fix it and get parts it becomes planned.
