No... The sun and wind can do that bit too, with help now and then from expensive means when they aren't working (the 5% of the time issue)
Negative ghost rider, what happens when the clouds move over and the wind stops blowing? You need an energy source that is instantly dispatchable for base load

When renewables are performing at their best then yes you can turn down the base load generators, but even this is very rare in countries with well established RE sectors

That is the point most people tend to forget, or it get glossed over.

It happened recently in Europe.
Doesn't help when you tell people this, they then go but that is why you diversify the grid, you know adding more and more.
So we need to have specialists in coal, wind, nuclear, solar and and, we also need infrastructure, spares and all the other sundries that come with it.

The nuclear plants that stopped working because the river water is too warm now from climate change?

Those look like they are fine?
Here is Germany right now

Remember they have twice the amount of wind installed then our entire grid. In fact they have almost twice as much solar (but it is Germany)

Here is South Australia, I mean just look at how low that Carbon is

No it was France where it happened. Yes I was just kinda trolling to say that as climate change worsens, the "base load" energy production will become more unreliable. And then in case of SA, renewables are already far more reliable than the "base load" energy because of politics.

Yet they are now generating over 40GW of power from the nuclear plants, while Germany can barely get 10GW out of it's 63GW of wind.
Also renewables are not more reliable, even with the EAF under 60% renewables are still half that.
