Don't worry gents, the government now wants to declare a national state of disaster - that'll fix things!
Well they not wrong South Africa is a national disaster... Its man man made though so maybe drop the natural part

Yup sadly, yet people keep thinking that renewables will save us, it's like where? We need a decent baseload (it's not a myth) first.
There's a way around that for some of the load, about 30%. And done with renewables....
(Weather dependent of course, but quite good compared to Europe for instance.)

Mentioned the article earlier, here's a piece of my debate about it elsewhere.
...it's discussing how small to medium business interests in SA make up around 30% of the power demand and that they can successfully use solar in this country to cover both their needs and save much on costs and reliability.

So not a direct solution to the base load concern in your article, but rather a way to cut general demand for power significantly which then would make Eskom's current job more realistic.

Yep, a well known political trick - create problem, create "solution".

I wont put it pas Ramaposa to have started investing in Solar back in 2014 when he was tasked with fixing the power problems instead of you know actually fixing it. Now he can reap on said investment by pushing hard on the solar "solutions"

Although he's got a solid business past he's more of a front-man puppet now, and not just for the anc. The IMF & co. own us.

It's kinda crazy how we are back in stage 6 with most of the OCGT in use
Do we know this for sure? They might still use it only for peaking periods. If you look at the power alert, for example, there is an excess of power of 943MW if max available capacity was used. There's also an energy deficit (without using any peaking plants etc) of 2414MW (Stage 3) but I guess you need to a 2GW buffer which gets us to Stage 5.

They have been using a minimum of 7 every day this month (check data portal, there is a whole section of OCGT), last night was 10 iirc (7 Eskom 3 IPP), and there are a total of 20 (21? 22?) That can be run. So yeah, pretty sure.
