It saved them using pumped storage and diesel. If those 2 things weren't available there would have been a short notice sob story from Eskom.Stages of load shedding are not based on an unreliable source of energy
I'll believe it... when I see it in 10 years from Canada...![]()

Are you sure of that? Did they have that info available? Looking at the peak numbers last night demand was only 800mw over supply, so the stage 4 load shedding at night plus the 900MW from the OCGTs covered what was needed. It saved them using pumped storage and diesel. The solar and wind was just gravey and is what they are in SA. For them to really make a difference they'd have to know for sure that they'd be getting 4GW.
Which with our weather predictions that's not certain.

Peak numbers from SikonathiM show that Saturday and Sunday were almost the same.
Distrusting the government is bad. Don't go there, man.I'm going to be bold and suggest much of Eskom's data is as unreliable as their service. And I honestly believe some of it will be their own dishonesty.
FTFY...Distrusting the government is bad. Don't go there, man.
Let's hope so, but let's also hope those that tout renewables notice the trends... Look peak demand is not when the sun is shining bright, but rather when it's not.Lest hope the 12pm update looks much better!
First one doesn't last all night and starts to use other means of power to keep it molten through the night.

People are still learning the principal of making hay while the sun shines.Let's hope so, but let's also hope those that tout renewables notice the trends... Look peak demand is not when the sun is shining bright, but rather when it's not.
Falling wind turbines? I mean sure they'll generate some electricity when they fall, but you gotta crank it back up to fall again.
Not sure if it is a solution but yea...
Rome wasn't built in a day. Locally we need to accept coal is here to stay for a long time.First one doesn't last all night and starts to use other means of power to keep it molten through the night.
Second one costs a lot, uses a lot of resources that aren't limitless. Sadly this is SA and we won't the proper clean, reliable energy source.

Not sure if it is a solution but yea...
Yup sadly, yet people keep thinking that renewables will save us, it's like where? We need a decent baseload (it's not a myth) first.Rome wasn't built in a day. Locally we need to accept coal is here to stay for a long time.
However most focus is needed on thrashing govt.
