That actually makes it more complicated then it really is.
It's stage 4 from 4pm to 5am tomorrow, thereafter its stage 3 till 5am on Sunday where it will be stage 2 till 4pm, back to Stage 3 till 4pm on Monday
Yeah, bugs me too but I'm not going to reword it anymore.

I wonder if Eskom will even run more OCGT next month to drop us down to like a permanent stage 2, when they get more money for the new financial year, or if they are just going to leave us in 3/4/5 and using them to keep us out of 6...

But wind gives more power..
Wind needs a big ass turbine raised about 10m above the highest point of your house / tree in your garden. And it needs wind. Lots of wind. It might be an option in some coastal parts but is a non-starter elsewhere.

My 6kWp solar array provides 30kWh most days. It would take a pretty hefty turbine to produce the equivalent.

Someone help me understand what I am looking at here. Coal is lower, right? So what does that mean
More stuff broke. There was 20GW of coal on the 9th, and 18.5GW on the 10th forcing them to burn more diesel throughout the day.

Its possible that they are running less coal due to lower weekend demand as well, taking advantage to do some maintance for the week ahead. Still going to stage 2 at least tomorrow

Then why burn shitloads of diesel then? Also, it's not the weekend yet in that graph.

You guys need to stop looking at that graph so religiously. It does not show the bottom which means they are missing several series of data, specifically around recharging pumped storage and similar.

And if you just plot the generation on a scale similar to theirs:

They are exactly the same. The black colour includes your orange negative bars.
Their black series is Thermal minus Pumping.
So the black series goes down dramatically when they start pumping water uphill... because it's a nett number. The actual thermal generation does not tail off nearly as much as their graph makes it appear.

Yes.

No one said generation tails off, I said we had 20GW of coal on the 9th and 18.5GW on the 10th. Have a look at 7am on those days.
