So they're frantically burning imported diesel (and kerosene from the back of the store cupboard) to keep loadshedding to a mere 7000MW. Like the proverbial lobster in warming water I find I get habituated to the worsening situation so every now and again try to take a step back and consider just how bad things have become. Absolutely disgraceful state of affairs.

How much is that per litre and if its cheaper than diesel why aren't they using that everywhere?
Each unit is only 57MW and its a true peaker normally used for black starts or grid stability

Yeah it is, but it's probably more load shift at higher levels of load shedding demand seems to actually be higher

When you talk about load shift are you referring to the phenomenon of when power returns, the instantaneous load is quite high as people are now charging their batteries, using dishwashers, boiling kettles etc?

Yup, plus people sitting in 4 hours of load shedding who would've cooked at 5.30 now having to start at 6.30 or 7pm.

Well yeah

When we had reliable power and lower loadshedding i was using more solar. Now that its a crap shoot im always maintaining 100% soc. Which means less solar and more grid used

There is also that, I've been doing the same :(
