Then take into account all the little batteries, all the bigger batteries, the people cooking, washing, ironing or whatever they would've done at normal times, you shift the load. 2 hours every 6 hours sort of breaks even, 4 hours every 4 hours and you start seeing things happening at odd times.
I always thought this as well. For domestic loads load shedding is probably only effectve at actually reducing usage from miniscule things like tv, wifi and lights. All the other heavy loads like geysers, fridges, cooking, boiling water, washing/drying, etc still happens but just gets shifted to a different time. I can attest to this because i find myself doing weird stuff like setting an alarm to dry clothes at 2am now.

Earlier hours of the evening is peak
I thought industry uses most power. Isn't this "peak" they refer to rather just household peak, and made to be important to justify less use of diesel?

You're not the only one doing it, load shedding for residential areas has a diminishing returns as we shift the load.

Industry uses the most load overall, but peaks kick in when people get home and start cooking, same as the first peak is when people get up to make coffee. Oddly enough these peaks did also drop during lockdowns. After 9pm it drops all the way back down to just the normal load + industry.

Correct. This is what is so stupid about the current situation. The peak will get even bigger if it goes beyond Stage 6.

Muppet here pulling a nice flat 2 KW, the moment Eskom come online for about 30 mins after every slot to recharge my batteries. Happy to contribute.
And with the LS you've not seen your electrical bill go down?

Anyone using a tumble dryer in sa should be strung up by the balls. It is a completely unnecessary appliance in this country.

Muppets with inverters and not enough solar

Well, I have solar (12 panels) and 10kWh of battery. But when we get to stage 6 + local area outages - I have to pull from the grid sometimes. Even more so when cloud cover is significant.
