I'm looking at getting a Macbook as a Christmas gift for a student. I can't afford a brand new one so a CPO or second-hand will do for now. The maximum I'm willing to spend on this gift is R15k which as you may realize is not enough for a brand new Macbook (Don't want the Air 2015 I believe it is)

After a google search for Macbook CPO reseller, I found a site called Powerbites and they seem to have pretty good deals on used Macbooks. However, as the skeptic in me likes to say if it's too good to be true, then it probably is. But before I completely disregard the site I just wanted to know if there is anyone who has used the site to make a big purchase before and what your experience with them was and if you actually got your product. Macbook or otherwise.

Did a quick Google search looking for reviews on HelloPeter and MyBB but I could not find anything solid on them. Lastly what sites would you recommend for purchasing CPO or second-hand Macbooks? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The guy sells his stuff on carbonite as well if I remember correctly, so can always pop over there to look at his ratings.

No, but I do want to purchase a Macbook for my brother who is starting with Uni next year. He's not tech savvy so I need something that just works without having to install an SSD because Windows is being slow or adding more RAM.
My SO is looking to offload her late 2013 macbook pro as she is looking to upgrade.
Let me know if you would be interested in it.

For R15k you can find a windows laptop with an SSD that just works.

Look at the Huawei Mate book D series.

I have a Macbook for my home and personal use and I love it, but for work or uni I'd say that the 2 x USB-C ports are a restriction for anyone, never mind someone who isn't tech savvy.

For work I use a Dell Latitude 5400 I got from Nucleus Tech and it is the best laptop I've ever had. All day battery, 3 x USB, USB-C, Micro SD, HDMI, built in 4g slot and lightweight to boot. It's a real workhorse and mine has a 512 SSD, 16gb RAM and an i7. I even bought a second one for my son for school it is so good.

For R15 you'd be able to a get a macbook M1 second hand easily.

Check carbonite.co.za
