I am looking at buying the following powered HDMI splitter for R499.00:

Powered HDMI Splitter 1x2 (2 outputs) with 3D Support - HDCP v1.2

From HD Cabling

Any thoughts?

We sell a similar one (might be the same) for the same price. Couple of rand difference. They come from China and are relatively reliable.

I have that exact one at home...

Works a treat, no issues in the 6 months i've had it.

I have been looking for one as well, but how does HDCP work with a splitter?

I had an Ellies, got wacked by lightning. Got one off Ebay from China for R200 incl shipping 1x2 splitter, works perfect.

What are you prepared to pay? :D

We are also agents for Gefen... Quality stuff from The States.

How long is a piece of string? :D

I like the look of the Gefen, looks quality. I want a good quality product (with no loss of signal etc). I am prepared to pay more.

I got mine because of HDCP issues with my receiver....

It works flawlessly with HDCP to 2 different TVs...

You should be good to go with the one you posted... It's only a 2-way split.

Expect to pay around R3k for a Gefen 2-way with optical output for an amp.

I bought a generic garden variety splitter from Cash Crusaders for about R300. Works lekker, but does not support 1080p. It does what I want it to do, so I would recommend it (or any other one like it).

Damn...that is a tad on the expensive side. Maybe when I am big. ;)

:D High-end HDMi equipment does not sell well in Africa... Even guys that can afford it, will only buy it once they've tried everything else and nothing worked correctly with their equipment.

One of my HDMI cables cost R800.00 so I don't mind spending a few $$$...

but I just bought a new place...so I am holding back on the bigger expenses.

Unless it's a lengthy cable, why would you pay R800 for a digital cable?

Because ure stupid and got fooled into thinking HDMI cables are better if they cost more. You can buy a 10m cable from Space TV for like R300 cuz its what they go for, and shops mark it up to catch people like you out
