I’m sorry, didn’t know you specialize in sorting out power problems of countries in a way that doesn’t affect anyone’s opinions. Go ahead then, please fix it for us by Tuesday :)
If the powerships go ahead you will be lucky to see them before 2025 and then we only get 1000MW. They can fix 25000MW that they broke by then.

Let me be in charge of Eskom, Transnet, the Police and the Army and sit back and watch the show. You will see results before Tuesday.

Anyone know what the effective cost of a power ship's electricty would be per kWh?

Cheaper that the diesel / OCGTs?

That is a very tricky question to answer. Estimates range from R2.50 to R5 per kWh, depending on the source and their agenda.

Thermodynamically a diesel piston compression engine is more efficient than an OCGT. However the proposed use of LNG fuel is subject to huge price spikes (even more expensive than diesel at one stage).

The main issue is that control is with a 3rd party, with all the scope for perverse incentives.

As well as the fact that there is a minimum power availability charge, regardless of usage from what I remember.

So I think we pay them 70% of the "fee" per kwh for their maximum generation capacity regardless of whether we use that much or not, for the entire duration of the contract.

Ironically that fee was the concern last year, before we started continuous load shedding. Now maximum demand is a fait accompli...

If that was all true the power ships would never have been an option. There are far better options out there.
ANC bunts stop stealing. Never going to happen. Born thieves.

Initially it wouldn't be an issue, but what about after 5 years when we "theoretically" will have new capacity online that will be much cheaper than the powerships...

Fekkin Bunts charge R400.00 just to have their shyte useless escum line running past my house. Even though totally off grid. Told the bunts to cut me off totally. Still waiting. And not paying, fekkim.

They are preparing for a post 2024 scenario when they will have to eat less, starting the try to extend some benefits for after they take some serious losses in 2024.

Also I wouldn't put such a flammable ship close to a populace that is tired of their corruption.....

Also in good conscience, I am even motivated more to use solar. Can't have my money indirectly paying for this corruption extravagance.

Also another also, this deal is a compromise so that Gwede will allow the Minister of the Electricity to have some powers.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a compromise deal to allow other things to happen, yes.

But they're in for a shock when the court cases start again and delay it by another 24 months. Private sector has largely decided that these power ships won't be happening, so they will do everything in their power to stop them happening.
