Hello ladies.

PPPOE on my router dies out, disconnects, but trying to restart the router does nothing, only an actual power cycle brings it back up, this is after Telkom actioned ADSL repairs.

I should probably call them, just wanted to know if anyone is experiencing these issues in the Centurion area? Should I ask Telkom to reset my port?

Thanks.

Usually the routers have 2 lights: 1 for DSL and another for PPPoE/Internet

Is it just the PPPoE one that goes off?

If the DSL light is also going off, then you'll have to look into the SNR margins.

I know that some uncapped accounts won't allow you to redial the PPPoE connection quickly, so you'll have to wait like 5 minutes - where as with like capped accounts that allow multiple concurrent connections would allow you to redial without any delay.

I would actually urge you to log in on your router's webpage and to find the statistics page so that you can post your ADSL speed/sync rate, Line Attenuation and SNR margins here.
Also post the ADSL modem/router brand & model that you have. <-- I hope for your sake that you don't have a Billion W40.

Hi, I actually have the same problem now that only started this month. The only difference is I can't connect at all with my PPPOE WAN miniport dialup accounts. 1 with Mweb and 2 with SAIX. The router does not show the internet light and I have rebooted it. Theeror I get on dialup try is error 651 the modem had an error :(

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Also if you can remember the default rouer address as well. Thanks.

Dont think this is to do with either SNR/Attenuation or CPE side. Think its got to do with auth server, will have to log a ticket with Telkom, the issue is usually general, sure not the only one experiencing this.

my line desyncs whenever you pick up the phone and or put it down again. this is because i'm not using a filter atm. here's the kicker. if i connect the phone to a filter the DSL won't sync at all, not even a flashing led. at first i thought faulty filter but i bought a new one and same thing

SrackOverflow, try connecting the ADSL modem directly to the telephone socket and use the filter only for the phone.

It could be that Telkom supplied you with a telephone filter, and not with a splitter+filter which has 1 port for the ADSL and another for the telephone. I know that my dad brought my the wrong one from the Telkom shop... which takes 2 phones.
