I've recently switched over to vista 64bit SP1 from Win XP. When I dial a PPPoE connection, I can use it without problems until I leave it for a long while (e.g. torrenting over night). Then the connection stops working completely at some point and I can't D/C it. Disabling the network adapter doesn't even make it go away in the Network and Sharing Center. Only a reboot removes it, allowing me to surf normally again. Any solutions?

Any antivirus/firewall software installed?

Only Avast Home A/V. Using windows firewall, for what it's worth :p

Ok.

Check your network card's properties, look for any "firewall filter" driver or something similar (I doubt it would be there, but it just may be), remove the tick from it and apply the settings.

Edited: see you went offline.

Another thing to check. Get the latest NIC drivers, could be an issue they've resolved.

If you are running any "tweakers" or stabilizers like Cfos or similar, disable and test.

Another suggestion would be to delete the PPPoE connection and start it from scratch ;)

I think I'll try getting new drivers and setting up all the PPPoE's from scratch. If that doesn't work I'll take you up on your offer :) Thanks

Cool bananas :p

I'm leaving in a few minutes though. I hope you get it sorted.

Well Teraside know's what he's talking about, so you can very well listen to his suggestions. I don't use 64-bit Windows myself but am also aware of problems with pppoe there...

Well I've had the same problem. With me being on iburst, there's no 64bit drivers and I have to use PPPoE to log onto the internet. Check your mobo drivers, cos I had to disable my nVidia firewall aka network access manager when installing drivers.

It didn't give me any problems last night. All I did was to reinstall the network card and recreated all of my PPPoE dialups. Hopefully it'll stay this way. I don't use nVidia's firewall, for the record. I just use windows' firewall which I tweaked to not allow incoming pings in the public domain. Don't think that's causing any problems though.
