Ok, I'm getting rather annoyed with leaked usage due to
* windows updates
* av updates
* IPv6 (specially with uTorrent)
* etc

What I want to be able to do is set a per-session byte count limit for the PPPoE session - say for example, 50MB. Then it must either drop the session or shape it to 0kbps to prevent any overuse. Essentially, a per-pppoe usage cap.

This would be very useful. If only it was provided by Windows (I don't need a linux solution at this stage, it's not a problem on my Linux server).

Any software you know that can do this? I'm not really talking about something that tracks usage (would be useful as well) but more like a per-session limiter.

I don't think NetLimiter or CFosSpeed will work, gonna give them a try though. Thing is, I don't want any shaping - unless usage has reached a predefined limit.

* Windows Updates can be limited by turning it off and doing manual updates in future.
* AV updates are kind of important.
* IPv6 leakage? Explain.

I know you are an ADVANCED computer geek, so please just elaborate a bit as I am sure none of the default solutions apply to your query. There is more to it, right?

Well, I sort of found the solution to my own question. This CFosSpeed thing seems to do the trick and relatively well I might add. It just requires a bit of configuration which is bit backwards.

Basically, (using their terminology) I want to set a budget for my connections such that if my data usage exceeds say 50MB then allow no more traffic (preventing runaway usage of my expensive GB). It seems to work though

Don't really want to limit any updates or turn anything off. Just put a "stopgap" in place (like a firebreak) that I can manage manually. Sort of capping myself at milestones. Thus, I can happily connect my torrent machine on local-only (or say WUG-only) with an International account and NOT have that machine get me capped (happens every month.....). Essentially, I can place a limit on how much International GB a certain PC can use. Pretty cool actually. Specially when you have 5 in one house sharing 1 or 2 accounts.

Regarding IPv6, I found that even though my torrent ipfilter.dat was setup with all the usual limiting factors, I STILL leaked data via IPv6 Teredo going on in the background between uTorrent clients. Bit of a loophole there. I have since completely disabled Teredo.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that windoes updates and most of the common av updates can be done via WUG?

Am I wrong in my assumption?

disable IPv6. Not needed amoungst the average, everyday, bradband user...yet. I certainly don't use it.
