PPS hit by hackers

PPS, a South African insurance and investment advisory company, has suffered a cyber attack at the hands of unknown hackers.

The company notified clients in a statement today that their services may be disrupted as it attempts to restore functionality to its IT infrastructure.

PPS was using Cisco Systems catalogs, hope that is not what they mean.

So many SA corps still haven't updated their exchanges.
It is scary because personally I feel they don't understand the magnitude of damage their stupidity will cause.

Its all tears and sadness after the fact.

One thing that I have noticed in IT and specifically IT security is that they downplay cyber risks because we are in "South Africa no one will target us we are small".

Another thing which is unfortunate is that IT security is seen as a "cost to company" and doesn't generate wealth for the business therefore sometimes they cut budgets and only increase budgets again when they get popped.

Its kuk, its always after the fact. I feel they increase budgets ONLY because they need to save face that they doing something about it.
