Prasa settles its Eskom debt

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has settled its outstanding debt to Eskom, says Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.

“Prasa will make the necessary pronouncements on the resumption of the services across the province,” Mbalula said in a statement on Thursday. [SANews]
 
The Minister expressed concern at the cutting of power on Thursday.

“Eskom has cited overdue payment of 34 days of their Western Cape electricity account of R4 million. This is despite the fact that other regions have not been subjected to a similar treatment. Of equal concern is the fact that Eskom had declared Metrorail a priority user at the start of load-shedding, and cuts of traction power is unprecedented,” the Minister said.

C'mon minister, we all know why the WC was singled out.
 
Modus Operandi of the ANC government = going for the easy target. 34 days overdue? How about others that's like decades over due. Soweto and other municipalities.
Like traffic cops, pulling over a single mom, for forgetting to wear a seat belt. While over filled, un-roadworthy taxis's, speeds by on the yellow line. Why over extend yourself if an easy target will fill your target for the month.

Eish! you people, you complain when Eskom is being soft on defaulters, come up with ridiculous conspiracy theories when Eskom take a tougher stance, there's no pleasing you.

I think the complaint is that Prasa was only late in paying Eskom in the WC, not in the other provinces - this is why trains were cut off from electricity in WC.

Or did I misunderstand?

Oh bullsh*t. I see taxis getting pulled over daily on the R27 in Cape Town. Many are arrested and impounded daily...

You would think you misunderstood, but rest assured, there's nothing wrong with your reading or comprehension, it's just that here we never allow facts to stand in the way of a good conspiracy.
 
According to the PFMA(This act is publically available), all State enterprises are mandated to pay their creditors within 30 days of the invoice being issued.

I don't have an issue with cutting off defaulters.

Soweto was also left to run wild and free on the electricity network for years, we all celebrated when Eskom finally put its foot down and acted tough, Eskom is doing the same with Prasa and now we cry coup d'etat because they dared to touch Prasa on your Western Cape?

Prasa in the WC owed Eskom and Eskom cut them off, end of story, you high IQ people should not come here with Mngxitama like tendencies, it's so beneath you.

I get the impression the minister is saying SOEs in other regions aren't receiving the same treatment. No need for the insults but carry on.

DA run provinces are the first to go. There's a history with train sabotage and the Western Cape. The only common denominator is the ANC... They do not control the Western Cape, and thank **** for that.
 
Eskom Western Cape were interviewed on Cape Talk this morning. They are the ones who insisted on being paid or having power cut. They have no jurisdiction over Soweto. Unfortunately the article is clear as mud!
