Ok so one of my modules for this year is is marriage and couples -facilitative counselling .

So one of my topics is premarital counselling (for an assignment) and just wondering if it helped? Did you learn more about one another?

I have never been, but I would take living together experience above any counselling advice.
I think couples who get married before living together for at least 6 months border on insane...

My father is a minister and he does premarital counseling and he has always received positive feedback from people

Thats cool. Does he do seminars and how long is the course in general?

tau1z- I agree with you in that you shouldn't even think of marriage if you haven't even tried living together for a while.

Live together in a tent for two weeks. No hot water. No comfy bed. No proper kitchen. Survive that without killing each other and you are good to go. I went to the pre-marriage councelling/course can't say it helped us too much. Did give us a good laugh to see other couples who actually didn't seem to know their partners at all. :D

I think you only need it if you haven't lived together before you get married. It doesn't matter how long you have been seeing each other, you are always in for a big surprise or a few once you live together.

From a spiritual religious point of view it is highly recommended.

But even just from a non-religious practical point of view, it is highly recommended that couples discus the topics of finances, credit cards, number of children wanted, careers, discipline in the family, authority and decision making, etc.

Live through renovations... if you can get through that - you can get through anything

Probably one of the biggest issues I see in ppl around me when they first move in together. Who pays for what! Cant believe how crazy some ppl get about money in a relationship..

went for the short version (for free by the priest who married us) as i've kown my wife now for a long time before hand. i'ts not really needed IF you know how to work your **** out without having the **** striking the fan. that is what it is anyways about and then keeping your partner happy without sacrificing youself all the time. both need to meet most of the time half way and other times you need to give more than what you would reviece. as easy as that. communication ftw ;)

My wife and I went as well. The only reason we went is because it was a requirement of the minister who married us.
I remember going... but honestly can't remember a damn thing from it.

Never attended pre-marital counselling but I'm not sure it would have helped anyways. Would have been like describing a garden to a blind man. You don't know what it is till you're in it. And we never lived together at all and believe it or not we couldn't be happier.

AWWW:love: :D Good to hear dude

I reckon MyBB members can give you all the pre/posr marriage/relationship counelling ever - and possibly be more correct ;)

Pre-marital counselling can be useful, but most of the time your family and friends will have preached endlessly to you on your choice of partner.

Very true. This is why me, much MUCH more important is marriage seminars, and the earlier you start this on your journey together the better.

Once the honeymoon is over the honey is all used up and only the moon remains, but only if you let it, go to a seminar at least once a year and your marriage will be much better of because of it.
