The character class does seem like a big reward for preordering, but since Mass Effect 3 and SFxT both made you pay more for stuff already on the disk, I think Gearbox is going the Tekken Tag 2 route by making sure they give you more for your loyalty, not less. Which makes sense, but it also leads into a point where companies may have to offer more because the bar was raised and expectations may change.
Having played the first Borderlands, and having reserved that one as well, this does seem like a bit more stuff at the start of the game. For the first one, the game gave you two free Gearbox weapons suited to the character you picked if you preordered and used the code. So, Brick got a shotgun, Roland an assault rifle, and ect.
This game looks to follow the same routine, but from what I’m seeing, every character gets the same weapons pack of four. If not, and they follow the pattern outlined in the first game, which was one set weapon and one pistol each, these new additions won’t break the game very much.
The relic that’s unlocked straight away like the one shown is likely a Level 1-3 item. Which quickly get outclassed, but if it increases your item drop rate, that could tip things more towards easier since more weapons and money drop.
The Key however is another story. When you use that to open the golden chest, you will always get a rare (purple) weapon suited to your level. So, it also gets outclassed, but likely a lot slower than other junk weapons you’ll find.
