Same scenario here. Average Vodacom GPRS speed is 500B/s. On VM it is in the region of 5-10KB/s and on EDGE (which Vodacom doesn't seem to have  ) it's 20KB/s. So VM is the way better connection and Vodacom should get their act together as ever since 3G they are neglecting their GPRS customers.

Are the above speeds rated line speeds or actual download speeds?

Don't know if this has been discussed already .

Why not allocate a free 200 Meg bundle each month on the VLive APN for customers who paid cash for their HSDPA card ??

Actual download speed taking into account the latency and time before the download start. But on 3G I get near the max of 40-48KB/s from the same towers so it must be the speed of the GPRS connection itself.

Don't think so, but why only for people who bought a card. A fair charge for about 1-2GB for all data customers would be a better option as discussed elsewhere on the forum.

As I see it , customers who paid cash for their HSPDA card can easily move between networks (recent news of network unlocking) .

Thus in order for Vodacom to keep these customers , why not allocate a free data bundle each month ?

Contract HSPDA customers will ensure that Vodacom receives steady revenues each month for the contract time .

With all the "Stroke and Heart disease" inducing crap VC has initiated in my life, barring my liberal spending, i've decided to reduce my bundle to the bare minimum of R350/month and ride my contract out and use the other grand or so that I use to throw VC's way on the other networks with their inexpensive 40-60c/MB prepaid options.
If all other contract holders do the same then VC will have to rethink their "business" strategy. Sorry VC employees, I know we all wanna get paid but such is life. NOTHING in life ever stays the same. EVERYTHING comes to an end.

Yup I agree with the general thrust of things here. I would go back to Voda (for data) if they started offering PPDBs that didn’t expire. Because then I could buy a 1GB bundle knowing I would use it eventually. This is the nice thing about VMobile, I can just buy R200 in vouchers and know that there is no pressure on me to use them.

But until then I'm staying away from Voda (for data) because the 1GB bundle may be good for a price vs. performance ratio in comparison to VM, but that is only provided you use the full 1GB; otherwise you actually will be paying more than 50c/MB if you do not race to finish off your bundle.

Vodacom Data bundles for prepaid?

Hi there, does anyone know if vodacom also have a data bundle service such as Mtn? Or when it will be available. I spoke about 2 months ago with an operator, and he told me it will be available in future. I dont like mtn's data bundles, because the stretch is too big from 10 meg to 100 meg. Thanks

Data bundles are redundant. Go over to Virgin Mobile please. Or else we'll remain stuck at R2/MB when we can be paying 50c/MB instead.

Virgin Mobile is pathetic!!!!

I bought a v m sim a month ago just for internet, and I still battle to open one webpage. It normally takes about 10 minutes, just for one webpage. And the data support guys keep telling me that the network are just overloaded. And so far no one can help me. I say it must be a settings problem, but vm tells me no. Thats why I want to change back to vodacom.

Well i use vm and its actually waaayyyy faster than vodacom gprs. Most of the time i get average 6-8kb on virgin.... VOda gives me 0.5 to 3 mostly

Did you phone a number from you VM sim yet?

ok from what i understand vodacom are not offering pre paid data bundles. does anyone know if or when they will and costs etc i cant keep paying 2/mb it gets a little expensive and if vigin is offering 50c/mb then i would highly recomend switching networks. vodacom gprs is very slow 90% of the time im online and trying to open pages and hit the reload button a couple times just to chat to my gf gets highly expensive like i tried to reload a page the other day it took R1 just to open a small and simple page why is this?

Turn off images and tell your gf to stop sending you porn. :p

ps. Welcome to the forum. :)

Yes, I've made a call yesterday, but still it isn't better. Thanks for all your replies.
Possibly just bad reception as VM is actually quite fast even during peak periods. Try somewhere where you get a full bar signal. Seems to just be your bad luck. :(

1st of september 2006, the month of mobile number porting, but when will we get pre paid data bundles
?

/me was hoping for a Spring Suprise

But VC normally make these anouncements on weekends, no?

Hi there, I know this is a bit off topic, but I just wanna let you know that I sorted out my vm internet. I heard that I can force my vm sim, to use mtn network, and it worked!!! I just selected mtn in my network connections on my phone, and I'm up and running. Just a pitty that not even vm or cell c knew it.
