So I preordered from Amazon today :)
I don't feel like waiting till it is sold here, and want the Day One edition.

For those interested in costs, here are shipping and import fees: http://2share.co.za/Files/xboxshipping.jpg

I imagine that there might be more costs locally that go over the import deposit. Will report back in December :P

Lol... enjoy your brick. I hope we get support for it soon.
What do you mean?

@efitol, yup. I actually did send mine to a US address and am forwarding it here with other stuff, but Amazon does ship here. Only .com AFAIK because .co.uk isn't allowed to send electronics here.

When is the Xbox One going to be marketed in South Africa? You won't be able to register it either without using a VPN and does it use the same point system as the current Xbox Live?

Looks like only 2014 for full support.
I run UnoDNS 24/7 anyway for Netflix so even if they are IP blocking (I highly doubt) it still won't be a problem.
They have done away with points. MSPoints.co.za has confirmed to me that they will start stocking $ vouchers after launch.

Basically worst case scenario is that I have to switch my live account to US - which I am probably going to do anyway because of the lack of voice commands for ZA on the 360.

I'm refusing to buy an Xbox this gen out of principle. Not that I ever used my 360 much in the first place.

I think it's good that they've reversed their draconian policies. My only gripe now is they have yet again decided not to support South Africa/most of the world at launch. Something which was to the PS3 and most likely the PS4 buyer's benefit.

I think it's great that they have reversed their policies, however the way they went about them in the first place has really ticked me off. The arrogance and 'buy a 360 if you have no internet' attitude has put me off buying anything Xbox related in the near future. They only reversed them because they saw the pre-order numbers, not because they were 'listening' the the community. The community put out enough outcry before they even announced the Xbox One about the policies yet they didn't listen.

I'm hoping that they add the DRM stuff back in. I liked where it was headed. The arrogance and communication was terrible, but the actual technology was cool. People made such a big deal over having to connect once a day.

Fortunately you are in the minority...

My line at home has been down for 10 days and counting. As cool as the cloud stuff sounds in theory, unreliable internet is a very real concern for many of us, not just in SA but folks worldwide have voiced the same concern. Been passing the time on my 360, but if I had an X1 in its original design, I'd have been sitting with a brick and nothing to do.

Says the man lucky enough not to struggle with Telkom day in and day out to get what you pay for ..

But for one so cheery about MS's latest abomination, such attitude to be expected

I use telkom as my ISP and cant even stream Netflix on 10Mb, so yes, I do struggle too. But I do always have net, it just sometimes is a bit slower.
