What is the best option for prepaid data?

I have an older cell phone that I want to use as a modem on my laptop when I don't have internet connectivity.

I won't need to use it a lot (mainly for email and to commit code to a subversion repository), so was thinking a 1GB prepaid option that does not expire if such a thing exists? I tried looking of the various MTN and Vodacom websites but they aren't clear on the prepaid options. In particular this must not expire, and not looking for any kind of monthly contract.

I would rather go with vodacom than mtn. Data bundles usually do expire in a month or two depending on which day of the month you buy them. If you don't want to go the bundle route, have a look at G-connect 3G: https://gconnect.wirelessg.co.za/pricing.aspx

WRONG MTN bundles are easy to purchase *141*6# One Time Bundle Choose OPTION 2

VC personally NOT for me

Try SAINET prepaid. R149.00 for 500MB MTN.
MTN is R169.00 for 350MB
