I called Afrihost today on behalf of my dad (he's in his mid-80s, so I did this for the sake of everyone's sanity) to cancel a mobile broadband package. He asked me to cancel as he doesn't get to use it (eyesight etc). I had told him sometime back that any changes need to be done by the 25th (I recalled this from the Clientzone prompts), so he called today and asked if I could handle it for him.

I was taken aback when the operator told me that it's too late to do it for this month, and it would only be effective at the end of next month. When I asked him where exactly the cancellation dates are set out (I had already searched high and low on the website for this), he drew my attention to a clause in Afrihost's general terms and conditions.

I'm not sure what the CPA says about burying importatnt information like that, way out of general view. But what I do know is that this is unlike Afrihost's typical customer experience, where information is presented clearly and unambiguously.

Seriously Afrihost, you ought to fix this. And in the meantime, how about giving a pensioner a break with this notice period thing?

On their front page, there is a "No contracts, no catch" box which states the 23rd. In the client zone, it advises you to make changes before the 25th (as you have also pointed out).

It's the 25th today, when you called, and you're upset with Afrihost? Don't get it. Unless I'm missing something.

Yep, it's there like you said (just checked). And clientzone says "before 25th", which is not quite the same as "by the 25th" (which is what I had in mind all along, so mea culpa). However, between these two instances there is inconsistency.

Fact is, I'm not "upset" at Afrihost. I'm suggesting that they put the cancellation information front and centre, just like they do so well with everything else.

And thanks for taking the trouble to reply with detailed information - it's appreciated.

What is actually the last day on which you can cancel an Afrihost contract?
