So I've just got this installed... But is there any truth in people and getting cheaper units?

IE from 25th to 1st is the best time? Don't buy more than 500 units in a go? Charge at certain times? Stepping affects this too?

Or just BS and a unit is a unit?
 
Oh I see the biggest is buy smaller, more frequent... Apparently
 
Mostly BS. You just have to know your area's tarrifs blocks. Then you buy up to the top of the first block if you use that much within the cycle. Any more recharges above that will cost more within the cycle and gets hideously more expensive if you use even more. If you find yourself buying into the third block then you should just change your tarrif it'll be cheaper.

If he's in Johannesburg and on City Power it would have to be over R3000 before postpaid breaks even.
Dolby have had prepaid for a year, it does work out about R500 cheaper a month as I'm not paying the service and Networks fee. Normally use about 400 units a month.
 
So I'm hoping to save the part in red (R362.00 + R123.00 + VAT)

My average over the last 3 months (bearing in mind it was December, which I was away a week and a bit - and January, which I was away a week) seems to be around 14kWh per day.
I think on a normal month, I'm around 16kWh per day, however.

I'm guessing the 'step' charge is where I want to fit into ?

CP use a sliding scale for prepaid purchases, reset monthly.
Your first 500kwh per month costs R1.4316 per kwh.
Your next 500kwh in the same month costs R1.69 per kwh
Your next 1000kwh in the same month costs R1.81 per kwh.
It doesn't matter how many transactions you do, or when in the month you do it.

You will save on the items in the box - you don't pay those on prepaid. So your 537kwh would cost you R777 for the month.

Thanks - so basically, try keep under 500 or I move to the next level ?

It's like tax. You pay more on the amount over the threshold... but you won't get penalised for going over it. (if that makes sense? ie, they won't "backcharge" you for the first 500 if you go over).

Ok so purchased a bit to see :

R30.00 - 21kWh
R300.00 - 206.6kWh

So my use should be R600.00-R700.00pm

From the above, maybe it's the stepping/block and mine will increase too :( ... will try buy R600.00 on the 1st April and see what happens.

It's reset every month
 
I wonder if it's a good idea but I've been using little and rather than buy less I'm buying up to the top of my block tarrif to stock up for winter.
