Hey, I'm getting a prepaid (pay as you go, $30) Slash. I was wondering if I use the internet to browse? Maybe use AIM on meebo or something. Or is there an extra fee I would have to pay? Also, does it bring a usb cable to connect to the computer? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum

Hi there, I see this is your first post, welcome to the forum.

Is it possible for you to post a photo of the "slash", I am not at all familiar with it. Googling "Slash Modem" did not help, sorry.

I have used Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and LG phones as a modem and am doing it right now :o

You can connect the phone to the PC via blue tooth or data cable.

Virgin costs 60c per min (I think) so using a data bundle (from another company) would be cheaper if you plan to use more than 100 MB per month. Otherwise the 60c per MB rate is cheaper. MTN 500 MB bundle @ R189 gives me a rate of 40c per MB, but it expires in 30 days so I make sure to use it.

You will need software to install the phone as a modem on your PC (also out of my experience man). Contact the people you are buying this thing from and ask them for full specs on it.

Hi, there are no monthly fees like Telkom dialup, you just pay for the bandwidth you use.

I use Opera, Firefox and Opera Mini to browse on my PC, depending on what I am doing. I use Google talk to chat, but you are free to use whatever software toy like.

I don't think this guy is local... he is also quite unable to speak English above grade 6 level.
