Prepare for 50MB email attachments

Tick a little option to not download attachments automatically, always do.

And some people's work email is limited to 4MB.

I don't follow. You can recieve 50mb but only send 25mb. From where can you send 50mb then?

I can only imagine how long it will take to upload with my measly 512K upload link..

Hah, I have 1020Kbps up. :p
Still slow and kills the line though. Google should allow you to limit the upload speed within the browser.

We shouldn't even have attachments any more.

It should simply be a link to your mail providers cloud storage.

Much more work to then save something you want to keep, because the sender clears his cloud storage or whatever and now you don't have whatever the link points to.

That's assuming limited storage and lack of buy in.

If the entire model changes towards cloud links instead of attachments it will be no different for mail providers as per currently hosted mailboxes.

If you think about it Gmail attachments are already simple cloud stored links. It should be as simple as transferring ownership of that link to the receiver's storage and then they can keep it.

Google probably already works exactly like that in the background.

And even currently you can simply save the attachment to your Google Drive with no loss or usage of bandwidth.

It should literally just be a "save" button away if you so desire.

It's the likes of client based models like Outlook and Exchange that are still stuck in the attachment stone age.

about time, if only it could be spread further. In house we can send that much, but if information needs to be sent to clients it is usually bigger than 4mb :erm: and other alternatives is needed, like a shared dropbox, etc
