Prescription glasses quote

Hello
Is it possible to get a quote for prescription glasses after getting your eye test results? Like an estimation price of on lenses plus frames before deciding to purchase from them?
Because I have around 2k, excluding price for eye test.

I knew that. I just assumed after paying for the test, obviously, you'll then get your quote AFTER placing an order with them.
 
Nope.

Once they determine what you need you can then pick a frame, for which they tell you the price, and then you can discuss lens options (e.g. Photochromatic, anti glare, plastic vs glass etc) and in all of those discussions price is freely available.
2k is going to be a bit low though. 3 is more realistic.
 
Thanks. I guess 2k was a bit unrealistic. Now comes the hard part of going from optometrist to optometrist looking for a decent deal.

Can I purchase frames online/walk-in store and take them along instead of buying one from the optometrist?

Should be able to. If not, go to a different optometrist :p
 
I did mine at Spec savers and with medical aid price it came in at just over R2k and my prescription is pretty hectic. My wife's one came in at just under 3k because she chose a better frame. I made the mistake once of going to an optometrist at the DD Campus, basically the same glasses were R6k in 2014.

That's wonderful. Although their frame collection isn't as extensive like spec-savers. I might get my frames from spec-savers and the rest from Torga.

You will have to shop around for a decent price on an eye test. This appears to vary between R90 (Dischem/Vision Works) and R500 - just make sure that the test is not subject to purchasing the spectacles from them.

If you can wait a few weeks there are many online sellers on Aliexpress offering both lenses and frames at very good prices. Check the feedback tab to see opinions from many international customers (US, EU, UK etc.).

Get a decently written prescription with all the relevant info.

Not a scrawled unusable one.
Glasses are far cheaper oversea's, we get screwed on pricing.

Here in China, retail costs me around 300RMB for a basic prescription in a *nice* branded frame.
With bifocal and other things like photochromatic lenses, will go up to about 600RMB.
Double+10% RMB for Rand pricing.
