Hi
how do you guys go about preserving your laptop battery to get the most out of it?

I'm replacing my laptop battery for the first time since 2010 as it has finally died and doesn't charge at all. This after ever decreasing operation time.

Do you keep it plugged in, or do you unplug when charged etc?

TIA

Keep the laptop plugged in and charged as much as you can. You can't overcharge them (unless you have a really old generation one) and they stop charging when full. Batteries are now based on cycles so the less you do, the longer they last.

The quickest way to destroy a battery is to run it flat and leave it flat for an extended period of time. Instead, if in use, keep it plugged in if you can. If you need to store it for time, charge around 50% 70%, remove it from the laptop and store separate.

This advice refers to the current generation of batteries of which i think your would be. (The old generation examples were the Nokia's you had to charge for 12 hours, then run flat, charge again etc to get full life)

Hope this helps

Question is it safe to repackaged batteries, specifically for laptops?
Ie change the cells inside but keep the casing.

Anybody here recommend anyone?

It is safe, safer than keeping old batteries in the laptop, provided replacement batteries are good quality. I saw some company in Randburg, but never used them.

well i beg to differ - if you dont travel and always sit at the same desk, remove the battery and leave it removed for as long as you dont need it.

use it only when you need it, it staying charged is what runs it down...

Discharge the lipo to 30% which is approx 3.8 volt per cell. Then put the lipo in the fridge for storage. Been doing it like that for years.

I once read that it's good to cycle the battery once a week, other than that you can keep it plugged in.

I read the same thing when I was doing a bit of research after buying a new laptop. I am giving that a go.

I had planned on doing that. But the battery in mine isn't removable, unless I open up the laptop. That's the only thing that has put me off from doing so.

In my old HP laptop, which I bought in 2009 (I think), I left it plugged in for most of its life, and it totalled the battery so much, it never even stayed on long enough for me to shut down if it was unplugged. Battery was completely useless after that.
