Pretoria gets Cope mayor with ANC-EFF support

Lawmakers in the South African municipality of Tshwane elected a mayor from a minority party — the second major city this year to hand power to an official who has no popular mandate.

Murunwa Makwarela of the Congress of the People, which holds only one of the 214 municipal council seats, beat Cilliers Brink of the main opposition Democratic Alliance, proceedings streamed live by the city on Tuesday showed.

Playing politics with a metro the size of Tshwane is...

Was listening to this on the news this morning, while dodging potholes in one of the less tar like roads I take daily and all that was going through my head was the soundtrack for game of thrones.

Anyway Crabs in a bucket, every last one of these politician things. too busy with the self enrichment and power games to actually do the job they were voted in to do.

Another puppet installed by the ANC/EFF coalition. The EFF say they will never serve under an ANC mayor and vice versa. So, now they'll go around installing all these puppet mayors with the two of them pulling all the strings and making all the calls. None of them can be held to account by the "mayor", and they can't hold each other accountable either. You loot your budget, we loot our budget and everyone goes home happy. Sort of.

Sad but it is what it is. Sometimes I wonder if not best that rather sooner than later we get the ANC / EFF to steal & destroy everything so that we can start rebuilding.

Collision politics' with the likes of the EFF and other smaller parties in the room will always be messy.
Zim rebuilding the schit out of their country after that collapse. Logic checks out.

Does it matter?

It is not as if the DA did a great job.
The ward councillors at least have a way of being contacted. DA also put real effort into fixing the Wapadrand substation this past year, while ANC wouldn't touch it with a 100m pole. Many people just sold and left because of it.

Not perfect, but at least better than the ANC.
