Pretoria or Tshwane

Names changes are a tactic to divert the attention from the failures in delivery. (More promised that could be delivered; more expected than can be delivered). Changing names is easy, just spend the money. It is a lot harder to deliver services and houses.

I think its best that the name changes, Pretoria today is no longer the icon it use to be. Today its a crime infested dirty scum hole. The name Pretoria should be reserved to what the city once was. A proud and magnificent city, the capital of the republic of south Africa.

I am starting to agree to some extent. Perhaps the name does belong to an era. Not all bad today. The city looks good from what I have seen today. I drove to Atteridgeville in Pretoria West to attend a funeral of a woman who cared for me in creche. What an experience. The township is alive! Some of the most amazing gardens! I saw one guy proudly pruning trees in shapes that are too beautiful to describe.

The city is not that bad to be honest. There are new trees in parts of the CBD and the roads are clean. The buildings can do with modernisation, but they are clean enough for a city's standards. :)

I hate the ANC colours on the lights as you come into the city in Pretorius street from the N4 West. That looks off and would be better in appearance had they kept them a brushed steel color. Those green, black and yellow colors (that are incorporated into the Tshwane Metro logo) suck in my opinion.

But the city is alive. :)

I tend to agree, Pretoria is not too bad...but it can be a hell of a lot better if it was run by efficient people and not the idiotic and incompetent bloody mayor and her cronies.

At least Cape Town has a mayor and council that can deliver and who apologizes to the public when the metro police had their strike she apologized and the officers identified were suspended.

Idiot Gwen still has not apologized about the refuse strike - an arrogant and corrupt idiot from the useless ANC stable.

Wake up people, how can it not be too bad? If a city is not safe enough to walk through without being mugged, murdered or raped, mind the rubbish if you have to run from some potential criminals. How can it be labeled as not being too bad? Would you guys let your kids walk on there own through Pretoria cbd? No, well then best they change the name, because thats not the pretoria I once knew where students use to meet in the evenings and have fun, whats hatfield like these days? I suppose its no different and those student apartments now probably represent a mini hillbrow? If thats the case, which i am sure it is, change the name of hatfield too. Do people in this day and age still purchase apartments in hatfield for their daughters to live in while they study? I bet those days are gone!!! And those apartments are now filled with nigerian drug lords.

Not to bad? The bad becomes the norm in SA so quickly, I bet if most people had to see the old pretoria today they would all agree.

Hatfield is still fine. I predicted it would be overrun by the Hillbrow syndrome a while back already. Yes, Sunnyside is a bit dodgy at night but it is not like people are running around killing people. Sunny Park is being revamped and the city is trying to instill a new night life there. I would not let my children go to Ster Kinekor Sterland at night like I was allowed to do when I was a kid. Not yet anyway. I hope it changes one day. The CBD is not that bad. I have been the the little bar at Church Square at nigh last year and it was fun. Obviously you don't want to go anywhere in the city alone, but Church Square is well lit, there are security guards and the little restaurant on the Western corner is brilliant for debating stuff like this for instance. :)

I think the real rot of this city is occuring in our open spaces like the Rietvlei Dam and our rivers. They are not being taken care of. I have been to the State Theatre a while ago. Maybe it is a little like a bubble there because you park inside, but we went and it was fun. In the CBD.

I rarely need to go there though. But when I go there it looks the same. :)

Sunnyside is the only place that I sometimes find scary things in. I drove through there at night sometime and saw furniture dumped on the pavement and rubble. Another time all those things were removed.

My dad has been working in the CBD for as long as memory has been serving me. He never had any issues to tell me about.

I am not defending the Tshwane Metro, but the city is not all bad at the moment and I think this is in spite of the idiotic decisions Gwen Ramakgopa makes. :D

I am however of the opinion that should these folks be insisting on changing the name, they will do it. I just want them to be honest about it. No lies. 100% honesty is required. A monument to the name would be fitting. I know, you know and everybody knows that if the ANC wants the name changed, it will change. We can just make sure it happens in a civilized manner befitting the name Pretoria.

It must happen in an orderly, transparent, honorable fashion. I am all in favour of a dual name system but I doubt the ANC would be willing to settle for that.

I love the name Pretoria. I will cry the day it is gone. I still get upset when the SABC propaganda News call it Tshwane. Bad news reporting and they know it! THAT IS DISHONEST!

At least say Hatfield in the Tshwane Metro if you insist on saying Tshwane all the time.

Or Arcadia, in the Tshwane Metro...

Whatever. :)

Name change ????

Would they like there own name's changed?? I had my name changed to many year's later find out why it was the way it was.

So come on people's wake up and smell the roses. There are thousands of people out there are hungry and need food and shelter's etc. Be known as servant's and good steward's than name changers. The needy couldn't care a hell about name changes they need food and shelter. Become an example for the rest of the world as people care'rers not name changers. Let South African people become the icons and not individuals.
