Prices are nuts

My friend had his XBox chipped. He has played every single new game out there. He is buying pirated games for R50 a pop! WTF!

Yes, I know it is stealing, but how do you expect me to pay more than ten times what he is paying for the same experience. My budget is around R 200 - R 300 a game and I restrict myself to buying an old game once every couple of months - his restriction, a new game once a week!

Something has to give, right now it would work out cheaper for me to buy a XBox Arcade and pirate like crazy. Why does it feel like I am being punished?

WRT buying second hand games, does Toyota complain when you buy second hand cars? They don't get a cut of the price, just like the game publishers. Here is a hint, it is called quality, COD4 still sells at +/- R 400, anyone wonder why?

We won't get into the ethics of piracy, but the whole deal with the 360 is that 50%+ of the experience is Xbox Live and all he online services. If you chip it you'll get banned or in some extreme cases bricked and you lose out on a huge part of the 360 experience.

Some people are happy to do that, me personally - playing 4 game a month is a waste. I buy the games I know that'll last and that have great online. I've been playing Gears 2, GRiD and Fable 2 since I bought them, buying anything more would just be silly.

That's why some people buy a pro and an arcade. They only buy games that they play online and play those on the pro. The rtest of their games are played on the arcade, which never goes online. With the massive savings from R50 games the second system is easily within reach.

I don't buy from retail stores either since I feel that most of their games (even though it's new) still feels secondhand since the seals are almost always broken (CNA, Game, L&L, Musica, Toys, Incredible, BT, etc.)...so I just buy online (it's cheaper anyway).

So please recommend one (or more) of these online stores you use please...:D

I put a bigger answer on your other post, (and I'm a lazy git ;) ) but basically in order of preference Kalahari.net (cheap, free delivery good bargin bin), BTGames (cheaperish online, in store collect and preplayed), Zaps and Take2.co.za

Thanks, will have a look but I told him next time he wastes R700 on a game we are going to have a serious chat...LOL!

I actually found loot.co.za better priced than take2.co.za. I went on the SA Xbox forum and found a few other locally based sites that are quite reasonable. I think it was under the game trading section.

Actually www.xbox-360.co.za is the best place to look for games, it's the main SA 360 community forum and the trade/sell section is very active with some great prices, you just have to be patient to wait for what you want to come along.

Yep! Saw COD4 at Look & Listen for R599 on PS3. I'm sure this should have gome platinum thrice over already.

To be honest you have to hunt online. Just jumping for the closet most well known store such as Take 2 ain't always the best option. Browse around, compare prices, use www.jump.co.za or www.pricecheck.co.za to compare prices, just do what you must to get the cheapest possible solution.

Here's some stores I always keep meh eyes on...

www.btgames.co.za
www.take2.co.za
www.kalahari.net
www.zaps.co.za
www.lookandlisten.co.za
www.cna.co.za
www.edreams.co.za
www.musica.co.za
www.evogames.co.za

if it's secondhand you want then try

www.gumtree.co.za
www.capeads.com
www.vottle.com
www.xbox-360.co.za
www.mybroadband.co.za (classifieds)
www.bidorbuy.co.za

if you're looking for a old game but can't seem to find it anywhere NEW. Then try the following (Got Ridge Racer & F.E.A.R at R180 each including shipping)

www.ebay.co.uk (use credit card via PayPal)
www.amazon.co.uk (use the market guys that does international delivery)
www.bidorbuy.co.za

and also try the UK/US section on www.take2.co.za

Hope this helps :)
