I've started a priest, thought would be good to try something else. I'm enjoying it so far. I've gone for shadow for levelling and plan to dualspec on 30. I need some advice if I want to do some offspec healing which would be the better option - holy or discipline? :)
 
I've got a low level alt priest, and I found discipline to be the best so far for healing 5mans, even for questing, until level 40 or so when shadow becomes viable. Until then, you have alot of downtime with shadow, mana is a nightmare!
 
Holy would be your best option for healing. You have big heals so you don't heal often and improved renew is just awesome for topping up someone :)

I haven't leveled my Priest yet from 80, but pre-cata patch Holy was a very nice spec and currently I see mostly Holy Priests moving about.

You will enjoy your priest a lot. Especially if your main is a DPS character. The change makes the game a bit more fun :)

That used to be wrong.

I leveled my Priest during WOTLK. Shadow for question and Disc for 5 man dungeons was 10 x easier + softer on the Mana + fun in BG's!

That was to 80 back then and I do not know how things changed in low levels now, but disc was defo way easier. BUT I've also now leveled my priest from 80 to 85 and this time round found Holy easier and better than Disc. I am currently Disc/Holy spec and while its still easy to do 5 man Dungeons as Disc I certainly find it a bit easier as Holy and then there also the fact that Holy in Cata is allot of fun with chakra :)

You probly have some gold. Try things out and see what you like best :) GL priest is an awesome class
 
Disc if you can manage the shields on your targets so they take the least amount of damage. So you basically have your shields on the targets + there health bars where in holy you just have the health bar.

Holy is easier to just check who needs a top up. Stronger heals and a lot more multiple target healing friendly

But if you can manage your shields and keep everyone toped up I'd recommend Disc

Disc pre 70 is the best spec for dungeon healing and you can even quest without respeccing shadow. grab the following spec Here and you can Smite spam your way through just about everything healing your party in the process. have a boss to deal with, throw up a PW:S on your MT and continue smiting away.

I did this and normally ended up 2nd on damage and first on healing done. Many a DPS'er has gone WTF at it though :P
 
My main atm is a holy priest Asyrel Eu - eonar
I would be holy for offspec healing, its a very nice spec with very nice aoe healing + you can keep tanks up pretty well. it isnt very easy spec to play though at first you will probably oom very fast, but once you learn to play properly its a very nice to heal with. Though if you want to pvp, and easier spec to play with be disc main reason its easier on your mana if you cant play holy properly :)
 
Currently my 85 priest is Disc and doign okay , however the changes to the shields of late and in the future have me worried about wether Ill have to go holy or not ;(
 
So Disc when u just starting heroics is better for mana?
 
Disc is tons of fun, when i q for instances with my priest lvl 38 now, i pick healing or dps, does not matter what happens, i use my Disc spec, offspec is shadow but i never use it, i run out of mana so fast and rather dps as Disc with smite spamming!, i am usually 2nd on dps meters at this lvl! sometmes even top. Smite spam healing with atonement is just lovely
