Can one plug in any printer into routers with USB and expect it to be available and work correctly or does this require troubleshooting or specific models?

Have you tried it and it's not working?

A lot of routers that I've seen advertise this functionality (Asus comes to mind). If I understand correctly they just expose the printer to the network, you still need the drivers on your computer.

I may be mistaken though. Haven't owned a printer in some years.

Printer with wifi works easiest. Just the damn printer expose itself to everybody even outside the wifi

That’s fine. But even with the drivers installed on the computer, doesn’t mean the printer is accessible or just works.

Not buying a new printer thank you very much.

PS if the printer is connected to an existing network it should not expose itself like that
