There is a possibility for me to work from home so I need to find a printer (preferably Canon) and not too pricy - it must be able to scan multiple pages as well.

What do you recommend as there are so many out there and I am not sure what is good and not. Cartridges must be affordable as well.

It depends, cheap printer scanner can be expensive to replace the cartages, expensive printer scanner can have cheap cartage replacements

I'm using the Canon i-SENSYS MF237W 4-in-1 Mono Laser. Great printer.

Stay away from HP, they are garbage.

I heard good things about the Epson Ink tank.

Two clients of mine have bought them (Epson) in the last year. Both had endless issues with ink drying up in the internal ink supply plumbing, necessitating returning the units for cleaning - at their - considerable - expense. Both clients binned the printers and bought different units.

Agreed, I've installed about 6 of these and no issues at all. Scanning app is also very noob-friendly.

I have been using my HP1020 laser since 2005 with no trouble at all. So not garbage really.. just needs to be cleaned on occasion and treated with a little bit of respect.

My HP 1010 lasted 15 years. I'd still be using it if it wasn't for eskom.

True. I've also experienced endless issues with the ink-tank printer head drying up. Had to use the 'Power Ink Flush' maintenance feature far too often which used up alot of ink.

Been using a HP Officejet 8600 for years without issue. Scans multiple pages, prints double sided. Great printer. No issues with generic ink either.

Would that not be some environmental issue such as aircon causing it to dry out? But ill keep it in mind.

I still have my HP F380 from that era but the new stuff is garbo.

I've had two 6x00 series multifunctions with zero issues, one got hit by lightning and the other dropped while moving.

Have not heard good things about the epson ink tanks.

Out of interest, we had a surge protector installed on the house main circuit breakers and none of our appliances / machines / computers have had a problem since. You might notice that 2 have been installed in series

The best type of printer should cost a bit expensive at first but the cartridges would never be too expensive and these types of printers are the Laserjet type. I've got a Brother Multi DCP-1610W and still using the same cartridge I got with it although I have light printing needs with much more scanning done.

Got one i cannot use any longer because of it not being supported on windows 10.

No compatible drivers available..
Very good printers.

Running a Canon Maxify MB2740.. very happy. I purchase generic cartridges from Cartridge Hyper. No issues. Did the same with all previous printers
i see this is 1,900 at takealot
is that a good price for budget printer?

Same what I paid for it. Decent price, good speed, functionality. Depends what you want in a "budget" printer. IMO , this one is better than your normal cheaper budget printers. I like it and will probably replace it with a similar one if this one breaks

ive also now seen on the canon site thre Pixma range
seems bit more than your one but maybe little more flexible with options
