Australia will consider strengthening its privacy laws in the wake of the British phone-hacking scandal that has shaken Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., the government said Thursday.

In times where virtually every other country is reducing privacy bit by bit, and people are being told that if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about... that's a bold move.

Yup, but I think they are hoping for harsher penalties and updated rules that cover more areas, to discourage invasion of privacy.

Usually these laws have a negative impact on small businesses as they need to impliment addisional measures to protect customer information...so there are other aspects to consider.
