Hey,

I recently sold my 2000 VW. Cash sale to a private individual. I don't want to mess him around and don't want to be messed around.

Problems I had with the car when I had it was that it was using oil, which I made him aware of. I had to top up oil every 2 months or so. He took it for a drive as well and purchased it.

Now he wants to return the car, because he says it's going to cost him too much to repair. My argument is he knew the issues with the car, and I've already lost one buyer because he bought it.

Is he able to do that? Is there a timeframe that is allowed to give it back to me in?

Voetstoets document not required until CPA is in force. Simple answer is tell him to get lost.

Sent from my apple stomping, berry crushing droid! Samsung Galaxy S.

Didn't do a voetstoets, just a document that says he buys the car and I sell it. Which I imagine was a bit daft, but just didn't think about it.

Under the CPA he doesn't have a leg to stand on, provided you told him about high oil consumption

Tell his to piss off! The cars 11years old...its not gonna be in showroom condition.

Whether a "voetstoots" document is needed or not, it is ALWAYS a good idea to have a document with both parties details on it, the conditions of the sale, and a list of known faults on the item being sold.
This way you can protect yourself :)

Send him the number of the person who wanted to buy it and wish him good luck. Win-win-win. :)

In all honesty you did make him aware of the fact that the car used oil and yet still he went ahead and bought an 11 year old VW.... 'nuff said!
Tell him to live with it.
