Took a second look at ByetSized.

They have really improved a lot. They use Novoserve btw but have their own AS.

Wow they have unmetered + allow google mounting and have plex and all one click reverse proxy setups with custom domains. I don't remember their app boxes having unmetered and allowing google mounting and ssh access. Hmmm this might be a nice box for me.
And their support is pretty good as well. I was with them previously before building my unraid server

You can buy them, it's just a normal something like a Dell OptiPlex or Lenovo ThinkCentre etc. he just upgrades it with an NVMe drive or adds RAM.

Ohh yeah it's something like this.

Ohh yeah it's something like this.

Always tons of them on Carbonite, anything from R2k for a 6th gen to ~R4k for a 10-11th gen with 256GB NVMe and the whole deal.

I didn't even see the file name until now lol, it's literally just bunch of HP ProDesks.

Lol I see that now.

So this guy is going to build a bunch of these and have 2TB nvme drive in them and throw them in the DC. 1Gbps unmetered.

Now I want one and I just spend like R1800 on some hardware for my server box I have here. :X3:

I have a 1Gbps metro line but thinking of getting a second line because of the 50 > 400Mbps speed promo so a 400/400Mbps line is just R697 per month and then I host it locally.

I am moving to Metro now from Openserve, so I can have 1Gbps, the 250 upload sucks though

Link for this promo please? Currently have a Metro line with Cool Ideas as ISP.

Not sure if Cool Ideas will take part in the promo.

News of the hikes comes shortly after MetroFibre confirmed a free speed double-up for 200Mbps customers, price cuts on its 500Mbps from 1 February 2023, and a significant reduction in 1Gbps prices from 1 March 2023.

In addition, it is offering a free increase to 400Mbps for 50Mbps and 100Mbps customers between 1 February 2023 and 31 May 2023.

This is my VPS server. I signed up for a Black Friday deal. $65 for 3 years. Consider myself a Noob with Linux. Managed to install Swizzin on the server. Seems to be running well for low usage. Think I need at least 4 GB ram and another CPU for Jellyfin.

Nice.

Not really. If you direct stream the specs are fine. If you need any type of transcoding then maybe.

Is it a ssd? If so you can add some swp space to stretch the ram a bit.

Not an SSD unfortunately. Thanks I'll give jellyfin a try.

So how does a second line work. Do you literally just phone them up and ask them to install another one?
I noticed when they did our install, they set up two fibre ports on the termination point, would it be that they enable?

I always wondered what the point was of having two strands but only one is being used.

Got it installed today.

So depending on what cable they used it could have 4 strands like my previous place but this one that is installed only has 2 fibre strands. So they used the extra strand and the TP has space for 4 x fibre cables anyways so no modifications are done.

Since I work for Afrihost it was easy. I just requested a 2nd line on the premise to place an order with a repair order. Once created placed an order like normal and Metro contractors showed up and ask if I want another tp and cable installed or can they just use the same tp. 1 hour later done.

Metro supplies the Calix 803 and the Nokia single port ONTs for open access orders so they don't activate additional lines like Openserve and Frogfoot on the spare ethernet ports because there aren't any, so they deploy a second ONT.

Frogfoot and Openserve activates additional lines on each LAN port of the ONT until it's all used up then they use an additional fibre strand. It's to prevent the split getting used up. Very clever from them actually.

Very nice. Are you planning on keeping it after the 400/400 special ends?

Yeah we have 2 strands. Do you know why they did 2 strands, and even 4 strands which seems overkill? Just as redundancy in case a strand breaks somehow? To offer extra services later? Or literally for people who may want a second line?

Interesting that they asked if you want another TP.

So do Openserve and Frogfoot-supplied ONTs have multiple SC connectors and multiple Ethernet? So each SC is mapped to its own Ethernet?

so they deploy a second ONT.
lol so you literally have two little Nokias stacked on each other.

I just saw you add this after I already typed the above.

Right, so those ONTs have multiple SC connectors and each one mapped to its own Ethernet port?

Probably going to keep it. Need it for my mini server setup.

The TP is in the bedroom, so I was keen to have a tp elsewhere but decided to leave it as is.

I have 2 x Calix ONT's

So, with Openserve and Frogfoot they only have 1 fibre connected. They activate additional lines on each ethernet port. The ONT's config actually allows it which means you can have 4 x 1Gbps lines on the same ONT all from different ISP's each activated on an Ethernet port.
