Hi everyone,

I dont know if anyone had a similar problem here. I have a dell latitude e7240 that takes a sim card. I have tried almost everything that comes in to mind and that I have found on the web to get to broadband. For some reason I can get it right. What I have done so far :

-Update adapters drivers.
-Tried Dell Broadband manager it says cant find device.
-tried the vodacom windows store app says - no APN settings
-tried the vodacom broadband application. It picks up MTN and Telkom but not vodacom.

Any ideas suggestions would be more than welcome.

Thanks
Athan

Are you sure it has 3G option?

Business notebooks have SmartCard reader for security, it can me confused with cellular SIM.

Check Device Manager for unrecognised devices (yellow or red mark). If you don't see any, then all required drivers are loaded and 3G modem (if present) must be on the list of drivers.

I had a similar problem a while back on some Latitude E6540 units.

Connect to the Dell support site and let it auto-detect the unit with all the drivers and software needed. I suggest you do the Bios upgrades first, in some cases you have to stage the updates. It was a combination of Bios upgrades and drivers / software in my case.

Yes it does have a cellular network. Dell Wireless adapter +HSPA (42Mps) Mobile Broadband Card under the device manager. There is no yellow or red mark anywhere. The vodacom broadband application picks up mobile networks just not the vodacom.

I tried the autodetect method but it didnt pick up the need to update the network adaptor or anything related to it. The bios update is something I should look at. Do you have any troubleshooter about how I should do it?

Ok, your problem is firmware. It is really simple setup to make work in Win10.

I never came accros a faulty unit, but that would be the last answer, it is 99% software/driver/firmware related

You can use the same interface as the driver autodetect on the Dell Support website.

Dell is brilliant in this regard. Once you are on the Dell support website, just download the module that does the autodetect and in one of the sub sections will be the BIOS.

Once the BIOS is updated, you will find that it also might unlock further updates for software and firmware.

Problem can be with Vodacom application or drivers.

1. Vodacom appplication will not connect to other networks and will block other dashboards from accessing modem. If you use Vodacom SIM, skip to #2.

In Vodacom application go to options and select two:
- Do not load on startup
- Exit fom Systray on exit

Now close Vodacom application and use other dashboard. Try MDMA.

2. You use Vodacom SIM and Vodacom application do not work because of drivers problem. Download the latest application from Vodacom, it will update drivers. If using Windows 10 you are out of luck I am afraid, as Microsoft intentionally screwed up modem RAS interface. Many people downgraded to 8.1 due to this problem.

You seem to have the same issue than what I had, on Win 7 it worked great, but with Windows 10 it doesn't work, I know you have all the latest drivers and no errors under device manager.

In Windows 10 you don't use the connection manager anymore, and I can't seem to find the place to for my card to connect on say 2G / 3G or HSDPA etc.

I have a Dell Latitude e6230 with the 5560 card, and with Dell tech supports help (or not) we couldn't get all my drivers to work in Win10, (fingerprint, and 3g). That was last year when W10 came out. In Jan this year I've reinstalled my OS and drivers easily 30+ times, and every time I've tried different combinations to make sure I get it working with the least amount of drivers.

I this process, I used the event log, and figured out my 3G module isn't compatible with W10, and I needed firmware for that. (5560 is an Ericson module), so I found the firmware upgrade under a different section of Dell's site, and after that, and another reinstall of W10, it worked. This was a once off, and it work now in W7 and W10. So my suggestion would be that you look at the same area, to get your problem resolved.

You said that all the drivers seems fine, so the module must work.

For testers, I would install W7, install the driver and connection util, and see if I can connect, if you can, then you know the card work and it is a W10 problem. W7 is easy, you only need the connection manager and the one driver to be installed.

Hope you come right.

This was my upgrade file that fix my migration to W10, look for one for your version.
