Since my adsl was activated I haven't been able to FTP. I was previously using WS-FTP pro, or Internet Explorer to FTP, but now I commonly get an error about a "timeout" or "blocking call cancelled".

Telkom was very confused by the problem. I have also tried switching passive mode on a nd off, and that doesn't work... Can anyone help?

Are you going through a firewall of some kind? Perhaps the built in firewall in XP SP2?

Also, what about dos?

if you go into dos and type ftp ftp.is.co.za can u get there?

I still sometimes have a problem with ftp, sometimes when i try connect the ftp server terminates my connection, when i phoned telkom they told me that some of their IPs are blacklisted and that is why my ftp connection is being terminated by the ftp server. The solution they said was to power off my router for 30s so i would get a new ip assigned and hopefully it wasnt a blacklisted one so i could get on to the ftp sites i wanted to. I duno how true this is?

studio7 have a look at our freeproxy method, it may be your saviour if its because of some Telkom interfering.

Have you opened the necessary ports in your router?
For testing purposes I recommend giving your PC a static IP and open all ports for this IP address (by giving this IP address DMZ status, if you use the Marconi modem).
Does FTP work now?
