Hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help.

I am trying to migrate a wordpress site but coming into a problem where navigating to the new site, I am met with a wordpress installation wizard.

The steps I've taken are as per standard migration.
1. Export DB and Import to new host
2. Copy all websit files and folder to new host
3. Edit wp-conf file to point to new DB/User/Password/prefix if it has changed.

Two things to mention though is, one the old host it was setup via website hosting and not wordpress hosting. I'm not sure if this is perhaps why the site believes it is not installed and two, there are 2 DB's on the old host. WP Toolkit indicates 1 DB is being used, whilst inspecting the site it queries plugins that are in the second DB.

I have migrated other wordpress sites without issue.

Thanks

Sounds like your database restore wasn't correctly done, check the database prefixes to make sure WordPress can connect to the correct tables

Use the "Duplicator" plug-in. I have had a few clients use it and the migration went without a hitch.

As long as your website is not huge, the free version should do the trick.

Turns out Importing is a Pro function of duplicator.

Interesting. Never used to be an issue. The free version worked for smallish sites and Pro was needed for big sites.

If I remember correctly the client I last dealt with, less than a year ago, used it to move their site. They just had to run the plugin, then copy the zip file it creates to the new server and then deploy it again.

Maybe it depends how they deployed it but if importing using the plugin, the option is greyed out with a big fat screen asking for money

Must be something new. I am sorry about that.

I found THIS On the WordPress site. Maybe try that?

I have used it long time ago...

But you have to start with a clean host. Zip file + installer copied over. Run the the installer and it will set up the site, new db, admin user and remove it. Easy with free version, no imports needed.

Everything working now at least on test machine.

Hours spent going mad thinking i did something wrong.

Turns out there was a file .user.ini referencing a different location for wordfence. Now to just push it to the main one
